The artist has donated the full amount of his £25,000 Mercury Prize prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to protect the United Kingdom's independent live music spots.
Fender was awarded the cheque on 16 October as his third album the album was named the best record of the previous year.
He has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues had in his early career.
"I personally wouldn't be doing this success if it wasn't for all the performances I did around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," said Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are struggling."
From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these venues have permanently closed – roughly one-sixth of the entire UK sector.
In the last year, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by applying a modest fee to their ticket prices, which supports smaller concert halls.
Sam Fender also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to help thirty-eight grassroots venues across Britain.
The donation helped spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties caused by water damage, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.
Other venues received funding support in upgrading infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted performers and fans.
"The idea that revenue from shows in big venues supports the local stages, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has commented.
He is not the first artist to donate his award prize money to charitable organizations.
When Pulp earned the trophy in 1996 for their album Different Class, vocalist Cocker announced that the group would give their prize money to the organization War Child.
In 2002, musician Ms Dynamite shared her award across several good causes, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.
"I also donated a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked better apparatus," she shared with the media.
Previously, they donated their prize money to the community center that developed their group, alongside other independent music bodies.
And winners that year M People donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was diagnosed the disease.
"Winning was sufficient," remarked vocalist the singer. "The cash was the cherry on top but we could do without the extra, because we had the honor. So our victory touched another person's life."
Last week, the MVT announced it had protected several grassroots venues in the South East, by transferring them to local control.
One venue in Southampton and the second in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is supported by the arts council and music fans who buy "stakes" in the properties.
